On November 20, 2021, the World Movement for Democracy and the Manila-based Young Public Servants co-hosted a discussion entitled “TAWID/TUWID: Initiating Reforms from Within” to share successful and challenging experiences of civil society activists in the Philippines who have crossed over to government in order to advance reforms.  The event brought together current and former government officials along with activists interested in entering government to discuss key strategies to consider in crossing over. Julia Abad, Executive Director of Far Eastern University Public Policy Center and former Head of the Office of the Presidential Management Staff, delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of balancing pragmatism and idealism to implement policies that can both pass in government and provide tangible benefits to citizens.
