Raul Peñaranda is a Bolivian journalist and analyst. Until February 2017, he was the Editor of Fides, a bolivian news agency (ANF) and currently he is a Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy, in Washington DC. Peñaranda was founding director of three newspapers: Nueva Economía (1993 ), La Época (2001) and Página Siete (2010), now one of the most important newspapers in Bolivia.
Alhendal is the founder of Kuwait Watch and an active human rights defender. Alhendal is well known for advocating for the rights of stateless persons and other minorities in Kuwait.
Established 20 years ago, Democracy Today works to protect human rights, democracy and women’s rights in Armenia, regionally and around the globe. Democracy Today is a union of public leaders, scholars, activists, whose aim is to support and strengthen democratic achievements and human rights.
The organization contributes to forming a generation inspired by the principles of the ’37, which activates the full functioning of the institutes of democracy and the Republic according to our National Constitution. It promotes human, cultural and economic development to improve the quality of life of the real people, through the fulfillment of objectives and statutory activities.

YIHR is part of a network of organizations working in the Balkan region. The focus of our work is involving young people in reconciliation after the war, in building democratic society and institutions, and in articulation the need of the society to develop. Currently YIHR is the home of the Secretariat of World Youth Movement for Democracy.
Afghanistan Organization for Research and Social Studies (AORSS) conducts various types of research studies, assessment project in Afghanistan. AORSS is committed to take part in capacity building and perform various training project for Afghan youth, students, lecturer, civil society and human rights activists and also women rights worker in Afghanistan. AORSS arranges sophisticated, professional and applied consultation for both governmental and private sector clients.
Founding Member, Executive Director and Dialogue Facilitator of Lakou Lapè, an organization dedicated to building peace in Haiti through conflict transformation, dialogue, inclusion and the promotion of human rights. Lakou Lapè’s strategy is to prepare and seek to empower local groups to take responsibility for conflict transformation in their neighborhoods. Lakou Lapè will multiply its outreach through these groups and serve as a hub for training, meetings and the dissemination of information while still delivering dialogues and mediation services as needed. To that effect it promotes the development of an independent facilitator group, the Institut pour la Recherche et l’Action pour la Paix (IRAP) which specializes in dialogue facilitation, mediation and negotiation. It also prepares and delivers dialogue processes.
The Union of Informed Citizens is an Armenian NGO, which aims to raise public awareness regarding important issues. UIC intends to minimize misinformation and its impact on shaping public opinion and decision-making.
AGA Secretariat is a coordinating hub for the African Governance Platform members, all African Union Organs (AU) Institutions and RECs. It is mandated to promote and strengthen democracy, governance and human rights on the continent. The Secretariat coordinates the annual high level dialogue on democracy, governance, and human rights following trends, challenges and prospects, and facilitates the implementation of AU shared values among AU member states.
The Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO) supports Nigerian NGOs in their commitment to poverty reduction, promotion of human rights and in bringing development to the door-steps of the common man. It provides a range of services and opportunities to its members in order for them to achieve their organizational objectives and also exert influence on issues of national importance.
The Maghreb Economic Forum (MEF) is an independent Think-and-Do Tank founded in 2011 on the premise of supporting economic and social development in the Maghreb region. Our mission is to convene and mobilize diverse actors to catalyze sustainable economic and social development in the Maghreb. MEF believes that an informed, active citizenry is the key to building sustainable economies and inclusive societies.
NAYMOTE Partners for Democratic Development promotes citizens’ understanding of democratic processes and the long-term benefits of their participation in these processes. Established in 2001 by students’ leaders and activists, the institution has been one of the leading grassroots organizations promoting democracy, peace building, human rights and civic engagement in Liberia.

CEJIL works to defend people whose rights have been infringed in order to change and improve the pressing realities of those who live it. CEJIL prioritizes those who are most at risk – such as human rights defenders, children, and women.

Society for Democratic Initiatives, Sierra Leone (SDI) is a national civil society organization working on democracy, governance, human rights and rule of law in Sierra Leone. SDI came into existence in 2003 and has in the past operated with institutional supports from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)
Guatemala Visible (GV) is a social movement that seeks to strengthen state institutions through citizen engagement, development of technology, and communication.
ARTICLE 19 works for a world where all people everywhere can freely express themselves and actively engage in public life without fear of discrimination. ARTICLE 19 does this by working on two interlocking freedoms which set the foundation for all its work. First, the freedom to speak concerns everyone’s right to express and disseminate opinions, ideas and information through any means, as well as to disagree with, and question power-holders. Second, the freedom to know concerns the right to demand and receive information by power-holders for transparency, good governance and sustainable development. When either of these freedoms comes under threat, either by the failure of power-holders to adequately protect them, ARTICLE 19 speaks with one voice, through courts of law, through global and regional organisations, and through civil society wherever we are present.
Legal and human Rights Center (LHRC) is the largest NGO in Tanzania dealing with democracy and the rule of law. Its main purpose is to strive to empower the public, promote, reinforce and safeguard human rights and good governance in Tanzania.
Nikahang launched Khodnevis.org, a collective news website, in December 2009 in order to continue the fight for freely reported news and information and “to give a voice to the voiceless.”
Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI) provides legal aid to journalists who are prosecuted as a result of their work. MLDI does this by administering an emergency defense fund, helping journalists, bloggers and independent media pay legal fees, and provides legal expertise to the lawyer(s) defending a case. MLDI also takes strategic litigation at regional and international courts to strengthen freedom of expression and press freedom and train lawyers. . By engaging in strategic litigation, MLDI aims to challenge repressive laws and expand the space for media freedom. Through this, it seeks to advance respect for international law and norms on the right to freedom of expression. MLDI submits cases to domestic courts and international tribunals and intervenes in cases already under way, as well as supporting national lawyers to do the same.

CCOAIB is an umbrella organisation of 38 local NGOs in development, which are legally operating in all 30 districts of Rwanda since1987. Member organizations operate across the whole country and are involved in various development domains like work agriculture and animal husbandry, beekeeping, food processing, shelter, handcrafts, livestock credit, women empowerment, rural water supply, water and sanitation, youth empowerment, coaching orphans, cooperatives development, micro-finance, rural citizen participation, basic technology, etc. CCOAIB mission is to strengthen its intervention capacity for promoting sustainable development of the population.
The project PERSPEKTIVA takes the audience out of routine. The goal is to break the wall that the education system and the media have developed between young people of various ethnic groups and give these groups a chance to hear each other.
Transparency Electoral is an non-governmental organization committed to the promotion of democratic values and the achievement of transparent, fair, and equitable elections. Transparency Electoral analyzes and observes the electoral systems with the objective of guaranteeing the political rights of citizens in the electoral processes, for which it develops concrete actions in order to establish integral, transparent and equitable elections. It also makes recommendations in this regard, understanding that democracy is only strengthened when clean elections are held.
Established in 1990, CEPIA is a non profit organization based in Rio de Janeiro that conducts educational and social intervention projects that empower women and youth. The organization conducts legal advocacy for public policies that incorporate a gender perspective, with a focus on issues of sexual and reproductive rights, violence, and access to justice. The organization has participated in several global assemblies. Its founder and Director, Jacqueline Pitanguy, was a member of WMD Steering Committee.

Chapter Four Uganda is an independent not-for profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the protection of civil liberties and promotion of human rights for all in Uganda. Incorporated in 2013 under the laws of Uganda, Chapter Four Uganda is a robust and coordinated mechanism for legal response to abuse of civil liberties. The organization provides bold and innovative legal response through representation, litigation and counsel to the most vulnerable and discriminated sections of society.
The main objective of the WUC is to promote democracy, human rights and freedom for the Uyghur people and to use peaceful, nonviolent, and democratic means to determine their political future. By representing as the sole legitimate organization of the Uyghur people both in East Turkestan and abroad, WUC endeavors to set out a course for the peaceful settlement of the East Turkestan question through dialogue and negotiation.
Tuwindi is a non-partisan, non-profit organization. Its goal is to use information and communication technologies to support social and economic development in Africa. Tuwindi intervenes in the area of democracy, governance, citizenship, human rights and media. Its approach is to consolidate democracy, and social and economic development by federating the actions of government, civil society organizations, the media and political parties.

The Crimean Human Rights Group (CHRG) is a public non-profit organization of the Crimean human rights defenders and journalists, aimed at promoting the observance and protection of human rights in Crimea by attracting wide attention to problems of human rights and international humanitarian law in the territory of the Crimean peninsula, and the search for development of mechanisms for the protection of human rights in Crimea.
The Centre for Support of International Protection (CIP) is a leading human rights NGO in Southern Kyrgyzstan working towards justice and social inclusiveness through the provision of free legal aid, legislative reform, provision of humanitarian assistance, and strategic litigation. It was created in 2007 by a group of human rights defenders in Kyrgyzstan.
KCSS is a leading security related think tank in the Western Balkans, which promotes democratization of security sector and tackles contemporary security challenges such as violent extremism.
Al-Quds Center for Political Studies is an independent, non-governmental, research organization (think tank). It was established in Amman in 1999 and in Beirut in 2012. AQC works to provide a deeper and more accurate understanding of the challenges facing the process of political reform and democratization in Jordan and the Arab countries.
The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes of the National Endowment for Democracy and an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with business leaders, policymakers, and civil society to build the institutions vital to a democratic society.

The Arab World Center for Democracy Development & Human Rights (United for Human Rights and Democracy- UniHrD), is a registered non-profit, an independent, scientific and non-governmental. It was established by a number of activists in democracy and human rights fields, dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights & democracy in Jordan and around the Arab World. Its mission is to defend and promote human rights & democracy around the Arab World. The AWCDD is politically neutral and offers studies, research, and training in Jordan and the region. The African Democracy Forum (ADF), launched in Abuja, Nigeria, in October 2000, is an African regional network of democracy, human rights, and governance organizations. The ADF seeks to ensure that the principles of democracy, human rights, good governance, and the rule of law are fully observed and respected throughout Africa.

The Foundation seeks to build a knowledge-based society in Bangladesh and defend the rights of women, children, and marginalized communities. It promotes environmental awareness, human rights, democracy, rule of law and freedom of speech in Bangladesh. Subornogram Foundation is involved with the World Movement for Democracy since 2015.

Filimbi is a pro-democracy and civil society movement that advocates against poor governance and human rights abuses, and which demands respect for the constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Filimbi promotes the exercise of the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association and assembly as well as freedom of thought, working specifically with youth.
RAJ is a national association of young people, created in 1993. Its main objective is to spread among youths awareness about citizenship, respect for freedom and human rights in order to build a democratic state.
C4Center (Clean, Conscious, Competent, Credible) is a leading anti-corruption, governance, and rights organization working to promote open and transparent governments at all levels.
MTO is a multi-faceted non-governmental organization, which promotes a democratic and civic society by helping other organizations and individuals, including ethnic minorities and the disadvantaged. Founded in 1988 it was and still is very much concerned with the consequences of the political, economic and social changes in the world. MTO’s mission is to equip future generations with the tools needed for success as responsible global citizens.

The Endowment is guided by the belief that freedom is a universal human aspiration that can be realized through the development of democratic institutions, procedures, and values. Democracy cannot be achieved through a single election and need not be based upon the model of the United States or any other particular country.
BEOG NEERE is an NGO founded in 2010 and dedicated to foster democracy by strengthening citizen participation, accountability and transparency.
Group LOTUS (GL) is a non-governmental organization that works for the defense of human rights. Group LOTUS was created in 1991, in Kisangani (North-Eastern part of DRC), at the initiative of a group of academics engaged to promote democratic principles.

Alkhawaja is a Bahraini Woman Human Rights Defender who works as a consultant and trainer on Human Rights. She is a leading voice for human rights and political reform in Bahrain and the Gulf region. Alkhawaja has been influential in shaping official responses to human rights atrocities in Bahrain and the Gulf region by leading campaigns and engaging with prominent policymakers around the world.
The Subornogram Foundation was founded in 2003 by a Bangladeshi young activist Shahed Kayes. The mission of Aware Girls is to empower young women, advocate for equal rights of young women, and to strengthen their capacity enabling them to act as agents of women empowerment and social change. Aware Girls has participated in the global assemblies and is a co-founding member of the Asia Democracy Network. Aware Girls co-founder, Saba Ismail, is the Hurford Youth Alumni and was on the Leadership Board of World Youth Movement for Democracy from Asia.
The mission of the Global Digital Policy Incubator at Stanford’s Center for Democracy Development and the Rule of Law is to inspire policy and governance innovations that reinforce democratic values, universal human rights, and the rule of law in the digital realm. Its purpose is to serve as a collaboration hub for the development of norms, guidelines, and laws that enhance freedom, security, and trust in the global digital ecosystem.
With a vision of Serbia as a state whose citizens believe that they can bring changes, CRTA develops mechanisms that inform, educate, influence policies and strengthen institutions. CRTA engages both with the government and civil society towards strengthening democratic processes and ensures that principles of accountability, transparency and equal participation are implemented in practice.

DefendDefenders (the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project) seeks to strengthen the work of human rights defenders throughout the sub-region by reducing their vulnerability to the risk of persecution and by enhancing their capacity to effectively defend human rights.
Voices for Change (V4C) is a UK Aid-funded, four-year program designed to help transform social attitudes towards girls and women in Nigeria by working on specific individual, social and institutional changes. V4C does this by operating at a federal level and in four States.
ArtLords was established in 2014. It is a grassroots movement of artists and volunteers motivated by the desire to pave the way for social transformation and behavioral change through employing the soft power of art and culture as a non-intrusive approach

reAcción Paraguay is an NGO that uses civic education, technology, and grassroots mobilization to enable young leaders to wield power strategically and promote change by demanding accountability from the government, particularly in the education sector.
