The World Movement for Democracy is excited to announce the launch of our new Crossover Initiative, supported by its online hub. Civil society activists who transition from advocacy to government positions face many challenges as they try to lead democratic reforms. To help support their efforts, we have gathered numerous one-of-a-kind resources on our website so that they can be well equipped to handle obstacles in their new environment.

The website includes…

  • Videos from leaders from a range of countries–Tunisia, Liberia, Malaysia, Ukraine, The Philippines, and Canada–speaking about their experiences during their crossover into government.
  • An analysis of an extensive original survey of people across the world who have made this transition. This report explores such questions as “what strategies, skills, tools, and mechanisms enable success?” and “how do former activists’ agendas or priorities shift while in office?”
  • Blog posts from people such as a Ukrainian MP, a Director of Social Accountability at the Public Function Secretary in México, and a former Executive Secretary of the Probity Commission in Chile.
  • A wide range of resources and tools organized by useful themes such as “women in politics,” “personal security,” and “making policy.”
