Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center Examines Human Rights Violations in Azerbaijan

Throughout 2021, the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDS) collected citizen reports of human rights violations in Azerbaijan. Their study found 676 violations of rights, with nearly half falling under civil and political rights, while the other half of reports were violations of social and economic rights. The report concludes that authorities generally did not permit peaceful gatherings, resulting in police violence and mass arrest at peaceful assemblies, and that independent media was deprived of their right to freedom of expression.
