By bringing together civil society, media organizations, and human rights defenders, the Center for Policy Alternatives in Sri Lanka recently launched a framework to reinforce freedom of the press and access to information in Sri Lanka. The framework outlined in a report titled Human Rights and Democracy, Threats to Journalists, HR Defenders and Civil Society 2022  proposes that violations of freedom of expression should be given higher priority by law enforcement agencies, police departments should ensure full impartiality when investigating these alleged violations, and that the government should ensure that no punitive measures that would affect the freedom of expression or dissent are imposed, among others.
