Arab Reform Initiative Examines Youth Perceptions on Tunisia’s Democratic Transition
Through its recent report, the Arab Reform Initiative seeks to better understand the views of Tunisian youth on the state of Tunisian democracy and youth ambitions for the future. Looking closely at millennials, who led or were actively engaged in the media (26-35 years old), and Gen Z, who came of age at the start of the political transition (18-26 years old), the study aims to grasp how differences in socialization, exposure to technology, and culture affect positions and interests. Despite differences in exposure to the revolution, both groups showed similarities in their criticism of the public and the political scene and desires for justice. Intragroup differences also help reveal that socio-economic, familial, and geographic factors may be a better predictor of differences in political perception.
