The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) calls on the Serbian Ministry of Education to address the lack of school books in Serbia for elementary and high school students in municipalities with high numbers of Albanians. YIHR declares that the “right to education in mother tongue represents a human right, which has been, among others, guaranteed by the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia.” According to Serbia’s Law on Textbooks and other Teaching Aids, students, members of minority communities, have the right to textbooks and other teaching aids in their own language.
