UNSR: Breaking the Cycle of Repression Through Accountability

UN Special Rapporteur of Freedom of peaceful assembly and of Association (UNSR) Clément Voule presented his latest report at the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, which took place from June 19 to July 14, 2023, on the importance of advancing accountability to break the cycle of repression against protesters and activists for exercising their rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. As part of this report, UNSR asked victims of repression, lawyers, and civil society leaders, to share their views on the importance of robust and timely accountability to repair the harm done and end the cycle of repression against them. Their testimonies have been included in this campaign, calling states and the international community to protect and promote the right to peaceful assembly and association.
