Taiwan POWER: A Model for Foreign Information Manipulation & Interference Resilience
Across the globe, policymakers are being asked by their citizenry to take steps to protect their society from information manipulation and interference (FIMI) in elections. Taiwan has a long history of countering FIMI, from which others can learn to develop their own FIMI resilience models tailored to their specific contexts. POWER standing for Purpose-driven, Organic, Whole-society, Evolving, and Remit-bound is the acronym used by Doublethink Lab to capture the key characteristics of the Taiwanese resilience model to FIMI. The Taiwan POWER model is built on a shared sense of purpose across Taiwanese society, driven from the bottom up and supported by the Taiwanese government. Actors from different sectors share information and resources to foster innovation, allowing Taiwanese society to adapt quickly and respond to new challenges.
