August 15 marks the two-year anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, since then, democratic voices in Afghanistan have been under attack. Despite many challenges, the women-led human rights movement in particular has continued fighting for women’s rights and denouncing the Taliban’s repression. Afghan women have used the platforms and opportunities available to them to raise the voices of the people of Afghanistan, advocating for freedom. Their courage and resilience are an inspiration for democracy movements around the globe. The World Movement stands in solidarity with the women-led human rights movement and other civil society activists in Afghanistan in their struggle for justice, freedom, and democracy.
