The Nigerian NGO Spaces for Change has expanded and redesigned their “Closing Civic Spaces” database tracking attacks on civic space in Nigeria and neighboring countries. In addition to making it easier for individuals to report incidents, the new design makes it easier for readers to review records by category (“Right to Freedom of Association,” “Right to Freedom of Worship,” etc.), geographical region, or by mode of attack (“physical attacks,” “unlawful arrests and detentions,” etc.). Spaces for Change has compiled hundreds of reports of attacks on civic space and civil rights, so redesigning their site makes it easier for researchers and reporters to use this resource.
