Jatzel Roman (Dominican Republic)

Ambassador Jatzel Roman is an activist, diplomat, and former government official from the Dominican Republic. Since October 2022, he has served as the Executive Vice President of the Center for Public Policy Analysis (CAPP), a pro-democracy think tank based in Santo Domingo. From 2020 to 2022, he served as the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of Consular and Migratory Affairs, Chairman of the Interinstitutional Committee against Human Trafficking (CITIM), and Coordinator for Democracy and Rule of Law in the Foreign Ministry.

Before taking office, Roman held the position of Executive Director at the Latin American Youth Network for Democracy (JuventudLAC) from 2015 to 2020. He also served as Vice Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU) from 2015 to 2019. In 2020, he was part of the first cohort in the John McCain Fellowship for Freedom organized by the International Republican Institute (IRI) and took part at the International Visitors Leadership Program with the State Department in the United States.
