On February 16, 2019, Nigeria will hold much-awaited Presidential and National Assembly elections. In anticipation, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) has been busy with election monitoring and voter education efforts through its #WatchingTheVote program. The YIAGA team will deploy 3,034 Polling Unit Observers on election day, as well as 822 roving observers to report “critical incidents” should they occur.

On January 10, 2019, the YIAGA team hosted a radio show broadcast on stations across Nigeria to inform prospective voters of the necessity of civic engagement and to provide information about the “pre-election environment and the election day activities in order to counter misinformation and rumours.” In addition, they hosted a roundtable to discuss the key role media will play in avoiding a “crisis of confidence in the electoral process.” Read more about YIAGA’s pre-election activities here and follow them on Twitter for live updates on election day.
