The new blog Power 3.0 explores how strategic authoritarian governments survive and thrive in a globalized information age. Power 3.0 examines how authoritarian regimes are actively using the “openness and interconnectedness of the liberal international order” to gain power. Additionally, the blog explores “how democracies are drawing on their strengths” to fight back against the phenomenon with innovative approaches, such as investigative journalism on kleptocracy, and civil society’s efforts to combat disinformation on social media and organize policy support for internet freedom. Recently, Power 3.0 documented authoritarian regimes’ manipulation of social media and shadow election observation groups to project and maintain their influence.
