Movements.org: A Powerful Web Platform for Human Rights Activists

Advancing Human Rights has launched a new website called Movements.org that connects human rights activists in closed societies with individuals around the world with skills to help. Activists can access the site, create a profile, and post a request for help, whether it is legal assistance, publicity, or a request for asylum. Individuals with useful expertise in any country can create a profile of their own and respond to the activists’ requests or post an offer of help. The platform already boasts some interesting successes. According to the Daily Beast, former business associates of Russian anti-corruption lawyer Sergei Magnitsky posted a request on the site for a song about him and a New York song-writer joined with Russian activists to produce one.
