Iranian Government Obstructing Women’s Access to Education

According to the WLP, the Iranian government is taking action to segregate women and men in university courses and blocking women from pursuing degrees in certain fields. Iran’s 36 government universities announced that they will bar women from pursuing 77 fields of study, such as engineering, accounting, education, counseling, and chemistry. Quotas for women have been set at 30-40 percent for liberal arts programs, including economics, administration, psychology, library sciences, and literature. The article states that Iran’s Science Minister, Kamran Daneshjoo, has made gender segregation in universities a top priority to “protect morality”.
