The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), and the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) have denounced the recent decision by Cairo’s Criminal Court’s to arbitrarily place human rights defenders Zyad al-Elaimy and Ramy Shaath, along with 11 others human rights activists, on Egypt’s “terrorist list” for the next five years. Zyad al-Elaimy formerly served as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and both he and Ramy Shaath  performed prominent roles in Egypt’s Arab Spring uprising. This decision would freeze all of the men’s assets, as well as seize Shaath’s Egyptian passport. FIDH, OMCT, and CIHRS have called on the Egyptian government to release all of these accused activists immediately.
