The World Movement for Democracy welcomes the release of human rights lawyer Lê Quốc Quân on June 27, after a 30-month imprisonment on politically motivated charges.

Lê Quốc Quân is the founder of the Quan and Brothers law firm, which provides legal aid to victims of human rights violations in Vietnam, especially factory workers and the poor. His work as both a lawyer and an activist has been labelled by authorities as “activities to overthrow the regime,” and he has long been targeted by the government in a series of arrests dating back to 2007.
