Georgian CSOs to Challenge Agent’s Law in Constitutional Court
On May 28, Georgian civil society organizations (CSOs) issued a statement announcing their disobedience to the draconian Foreign Agents Law, adopted on May 27. In the statement, Georgian CSOs pledged to resist the law using all available domestic and international remedies until its repeal. Two days later, on May 30, Georgian CSOs announced their plan to appeal to the Constitutional Court of Georgia. If the court does not act promptly, they will seek alternative legal measures, including appealing to the European Court of Human Rights. “All NGOs and media affected by this law can join us,” the CSOs said. “Together we will win. Not to the Russian law, yes to Europe!” The World Movement for Democracy strongly condemns the adoption of the Foreign Agents Law in Georgia. We stand in solidarity with the Georgian people, who continue to reject this law in their pursuit for a more democratic future.
