Faces of Civil Society: Global Film Screenings
This month, the World Movement for Democracy and its partners are screening the Faces of Civil Society video series to foster dialogue around the world on civic engagement. Our participating organization Youngstars Foundation is hosting screenings across six states in Nigeria. Having kicked off their first screening on International Women’s Day, Organizing for Zimbabwe Trust is sharing the films and facilitating discussions across Zimbabwe throughout the month. Finally, former Hurford Youth Fellow Makoi Popioco of the Philippines, his team at Postcards From Disasters, and YGOAL Inc., are screening the videos, hosting a discussion, and engaging citizens in multimedia journalism in Tacloban City, Philippines on March 19.
Faces of Civil Society are a series of interactive films documenting the inspirational stories of three courageous activists from Iraq, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe. The films show their unique journeys from citizen to activist and highlight the victories and setbacks they have experienced along the way. The videos are intended to inform the public of the work of civil society around the world and to facilitate discussions among various audiences on the role and impact of civil society on different communities. DVDs of these videos are also available.
If you would like to get a DVD, please contact world@ned.org. Versions are available in Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish – watch and learn more!
