One yerar ago, on April 17, 2023, Vladimir Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in prison for opposing the war in Ukraine, and for the past six months, he has been held in solitary confinement near the Siberian city of Omsk. In this interview Evgenia Kara-Murza outlines the challenges that independent voices in Russia face under Putin’s regime, highlighting the need for sustained support for political prisoners. “These stories of bravery, of courage, of human integrity deserve to be known because what Vladimir Putin is trying to do is to destroy that alternative, that democratic alternative to his regime.”
