August 30 marks the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances. This year, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition released a statement urging the government of Zimbabwe to adopt legal reforms that guarantee the protection of individuals from enforced disappearances. “This day is not only a reminder of the pain and suffering endured by the victims and their families but also a call to action for all of us committed to justice and human rights.” Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition highlighted that enforced disappearances have been a recurring tool of oppression in Zimbabwe, used to stifle dissent, silence opposition, and maintain a climate of fear. Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition calls for immediate investigations, legal reforms, support for victims’ families, and international pressure to end enforced disappearances and hold perpetrators accountable in Zimbabwe.
