Progressive Voices has published a statement calling on the government of Burma to end the mass disenfranchisement of ethnic and religious minorities ahead of the 2020 general election. The statement also summarizes Progressive Voices’ recent report “A VOTE WITH NO CONFIDENCE Myanmar’s 2020 General Elections and Rights of Ethnic and Religious Minorities” which discusses flaws with that country’s electoral process, as well as the human rights violations that are undermining the integrity of the general election, which will take place on November 8.

The statement also calls on the international community to help ensure that the government of Burma will adhere to the international standards and democratic norms of elections, and to make sure that their election is transparent and fair.
