In early August, young lawmakers in Nigeria, many of whom were elected in February for the first time, spent two days together to build their capacity on how they can help deliver the dividends of democracy. At the training, organized by the Abuja-based Yiaga Africa and the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), young parliamentarians gained a deeper understanding of legislative procedures and learned how to foster meaningful engagement with their constituents. This was also an opportunity for young legislators to connect with mentors and fellow legislators and collaborate to identify potential solutions that will shape the future of their country. In the February 2023 elections, more young people won more seats in the National and State Houses of Assembly than in previous elections.
