Ateki Seta Caxton, a Hurford Youth Fellow from Cameroon with the World Youth Movement for Democracy, has written an insightful reflection on the recent Africa regional meeting “Mobilizing Democratic Forces: Civil Society and Political Society.”
The meeting, held on December 2 to 3, 2015 in Abuja, Nigeria, brought together 45 emerging leaders from across the African continent to share knowledge and best practices in addressing issues of shrinking political and civic space in Africa, and to discuss the importance of developing effective and sensible partnership between civil society and political actors in advancing democratic reforms. Participants mapped existing spaces and opportunities for optimal youth participation in political and civil society, and identified best ways to sustain long-term networking, and foster relationships of cross-border solidarity.
