Bloggers and Journalists Arrested Amidst Crackdown in Ethiopia

The East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP) released a statement calling on Ethiopian authorities to release six bloggers and two journalists who were arrested last week. The bloggers are part of the informal blogging group, Zone9. According to the group, police removed laptops, newspapers and books while searching their homes. The bloggers have been denied access to family members, according to the statement. According to the BBC, the arrest came shortly after the group posted on Facebook that they were going to resume their blog after being inactive for months. Many have taken to Twitter with the campaign #Freezone9bloggers in support of those detained. Read more.
