Every year, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) Film Festival screens in more than 20 cities and selects approximately 40 films featuring human rights activists’ stories. This year, “Black Code,” a documentary featuring the founder of Citizen Lab Ron Deibert and his colleagues has been chosen for screening. The Citizen Lab researchers use evidence-based research to expose the ruthless cyber espionage tactics used against civil society activists. In the film, “Black Code” director Nicholas de Pencier documents the Citizen Lab researchers’ efforts to help activists in Tibet, Syria, Brazil and Pakistan.
