On July 5, 2019, the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy (ACJD) welcomed a resolution adopted by the Organization of American States (OAS) that urged the resumption of good faith negotiations between the government of Nicaragua and the ACJD. In a letter to the OAS, the ACJD announced its intention “to establish the appropriate coordination and communications with the Permanent Council of the OAS to assist and facilitate the diplomatic efforts entrusted to the commission.”

However, the letter also called attention to a number of agreements that the government continues to violate. Among those violations are the continued detention of 104 political prisoners, not taking action to disarm vigilante groups, and continuing to violate basic rights including freedom of speech and freedom of assembly and association.
