In a recent statement, the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet) calls on civil society around the world to protest the Indonesian government’s decision to block internet access in its Papua and West Papua regions due to protests over discrimination against citizens of the region. “The blocking and restricting access to information violates digital rights, especially citizens’ rights to access information which is protected by article 19 of the ICCPR,” the statement notes.
