DefendDefenders Launches New Report on Human Rights Defenders with Disabilities
Ugandan human rights group DefendDefenders has launched a report titled Overlooked and Unseen: Human rights defenders living with disabilities in conflict areas, highlighting the challenges that persons with disabilities (PWDs) face in Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan. The report looks at how these challenges are exacerbated in conflict situations, giving human rights defender PWDs additional obstacles to overcome in these circumstances. DefendDefender’s research concludes that though these countries have policies in place to integrate and accommodate PWDs, there still remains institutional bias, discrimination, and social stigma that undermines these policies.
