Cuban Artists Look to Overcome Censorship through Exchange Program

On July 20, 2019, Puente Democratico brought together Cuban and Argentine artists to share experiences regarding government censorship of art and to brainstorm solutions for artists working in repressive environments. The Cuban artists, members of the San Isidro Group, presented the challenges that they face in exercising their fundamental rights and freedoms through art in Cuba. Among other ideas, participants proposed a traveling artistic residence program in countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Spain that would allow these artists to engage with likeminded creators and to express themselves without fear of ramifications from government authorities.
