In collaboration with the Oslo Freedom Forum, Jigsaw, an ‘incubator’ that uses technology to defend human rights, has documented the courageous stories of activists in a new video series, “Internet Without Borders.” The series features personal interviews with four innovators who are incorporating technology in their work to defend human rights. In the first installment, Jigsaw interviews Egyptian actor-turned-activist, Omar Sharif Jr., and Roya Mahboob, CEO of Afghan Citadel Software. Sharif, an avid activist for LGBTQ rights and the first openly gay Egyptian actor, is supporting efforts for increasing internet access throughout the Middle East, as well as addressing the region’s societal stigmas towards homosexuality. Mahboob supports the economic empowerment of Afghani women through the Digital Citizen Fund. The fund equips girls with a variety of computer skills through various digital literacy programs.
