The Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) released a new report on the changing landscape of internet governance entitled: “Media Development in the Digital Age: Five Ways to Engage in Internet Governance.” In the report, CIMA identified civil society as a vital influencer for the future of internet governance, but found they are often absent in the decision-making processes. Members of civil society could and should more actively provide policy makers and stakeholders with suggestions on how to shape policies that respect and protect democratic rights online. There are several platforms highlighted in CIMA’s report for civil society engagement, such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The report provides strategies for activists to engage and advocate in the respective platforms.
