A new report finds that a majority of Congolese citizens surveyed view pro-democracy youth movements favorably, while only 27% approve of President Joseph Kabila’s performance. The report, entitled “A Troubled Transition in the DR Congo,” highlights the findings of an opinion poll conducted jointly by the Congo Research Group Center on International Cooperation (CRGBERCI) and Bureau d’études de Recherche et consulting International (BERCI), both independent organizations. CRGBERCI and BERCI polled roughly 1,000 individuals, 18 years of age and older, during a nationwide survey in February and April 2017. The poll found that 65% percent of respondents felt favorably about the La Lucha and Filimbi youth movements, where as 59% felt favorably about the Bye Bye Kabila youth movement. The findings indicate the political power of youth in the DRC, including their potential to influence the next election.
