URGENT: Iran Intends to Execute Woman on November 3
Middle East/North Africa, Human Rights
According to the German organization Stop Stoning Now, the Iranian government intends to execute Ms. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani by stoning tomorrow, November 3, 2010. Ms. Ashtiani, a 43 year-old mother of two, was punished with flogging for having an “illicit relationship,” and now faces imminent death after a second court convicted her of adultery during marriage. The International Committees against Stoning and Execution call on international bodies and the people of the world to protest this execution.
The World Movement issued an alert on Ms. Ashtiani on August 9, 2010, when the government refused the Brazilian government’s offer of asylum for Ms. Ashtiani. After a public outcry, her execution by stoning was indefinitely postponed.
